About Our School
South Fremantle is a Government co-educational Senior High School catering for students from Years 8 - 12. It is located in Beaconsfield, an established residential suburb, 5kms south east of the port city of Fremantle. Proximity to the beach, river and city allows a great diversity of programs to be offered which make use of community facilities. Around 5% of the population is indigenous.
South Fremantle Senior High School was established in 1967. It is located on a large site in Lefroy Road. The attractive buildings with their covered walkways won an architectural award when it was constructed. The appeal of the buildings is complemented by extensive lawn and tree areas, which provide shade and protection during the summer months. A Recreation Centre, adjacent to the school with olympic sized swimming pool, has allowed a great diversity of programs to be offered in the Physical Education curriculum. A Fitness Centre next to the Recreation Centre was refurbished during 2008 with $60,000 worth of weights lifting and fitness equipment.
South Fremantle Senior High School is uniquely placed to offer students quality public education with access to three Department of Education quality assured Specialist Programs in Music, Marine Studies and Baseball. These three programs have all been put through a quality assurance process by the Department of Education & Training in 2008. In addition the school runs an Academic Excellence Program. Undergoing significant school renewal with new leadership in 2008 South Fremantle SHS features outstanding facilities situated in exceptional gardens and grounds with the added benefit of industry, business and community support.
South Fremantle Senior High School is a designated Approved Specialist Programs school in Marine Studies, Music and Baseball. Entry to these programs is competitive and selection processes incorporate academic and physical aptitude testing, interview and/or audition. Students from across WA are eligible to apply for these programs.
Since 2003 SFSHS has hosted an annual community fair bringing together school and community.
